Maryland Family Resort: Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay is a great Hyatt family resort on the east coast in Maryland. It is our favorite of all Chesapeake Bay Hotels. Sadly it’s no longer a Category 4 but on the off season you may be able to get lower category 5 rates. It’s an overall good value for families looking to get away for a fun and relaxing resort getaway. There’s plenty of activities offered as well as onsite and local offsite restaurants to keep you relaxed and having fun without leaving the resort area.
Tips for visiting Maryland Family Resort: Hyatt Regency Chesapeake
- Start out at the outside pools in the morning especially the family resort pool with the slide. It gets busy at around 10 am. if you show up a little before 9 you should be able to get a poolside seat. when the pool gets a little busy its time to take a break and play minigolf.
- At the indoor pool, the seats facing away from the pool and facing the screen are the best views for the evening movies.
- Bring your own smores kit and enjoy making them at the large outdoor fireplace. They also sell kids onsite
- There’s a lot of stores and restaurants in the area including Walmart so if you forget anything they likely have it (except for swimsuits on the offseason)
- Bring your own bikes and enjoy the wonderful bike trails. They also have bike rentals including kids size available onsite.
- This is a resort on a river, there’s a lot of small jellyfish (and even has a sign warning of them). While some people did wade in the water I would not plan to swim in the river. There is a small sand beach to play in the sand.
- there are pool tables if you go down the steps in the main lobby and go to the left. They were empty when we went down there and no one stopped by while we were playing.
Pools and Hot Tubs at the Hyatt Chesapeake Md Resort
The pools are exactly what you would hope to find at a family resort. There are 3 pools at the Hyatt Chesapeake Maryland 2 of which are outdoors.
Infinity Pool with Bay Views
The large Infinity pool has wonderful pay views and built-in seating allows you to sit and relax while enjoying the views and or watching your kids swim around. This is in addition to the sloped sides you can comfortably lean against while taking in the water views.
Family Resort Pool with Water Slide
The other outdoor water pool is more of a family pool. It has a water slide on one side and some spraying frogs along the middle. There’s also a basketball hoop. There’s a fair amount of chairs that line the edge of the pool allowing for a good view of children as they swim. Go early if you would like chairs in the front row.
Indoor Pool with Volleyball Net
The third pool is an indoor pool. the large Window sections on one side fold up opening one wall to allow lots of fresh air in for the summer which is wonderful. The pool has a large volleyball net and a basketball hoop. It’s also the location of the Dive-In Movies offered each night around 8 pm (check the display near the elevator for times and movies offered during your stay.
Hot Tubs
There are also 2 hot tubs at the resort. The large hot tub with water views is adult only. The second hot tub is located in the indoor pool area and is an indoor/outdoor hot tub located. Families are allowed to use this hot tub. While this was a busy popular place we found it empty several times throughout our stay and were able to enjoy it.
Hyatt Chesapeake Bay Activities
There are numerous activities available while staying the Hyatt Chesapeake including motorized and non-motorized sports. Here are some of the activities included in your stay.
Miniature Golf at Hyatt Chesapeake Maryland Resort
There’s a 9 hole miniature golf course right next to the pool with the water slide. It’s a perfect break from swimming just pick up your clubs and balls at the towel hut. The kids made comments as the course didn’t look like much but it was more challenging than they expected and it was a lot of fun.
Tennis at Chesapeake Bay Resort: Regency Hyatt Cambridge Md
Check out tennis rackets and balls at the towel hut and head on over to the tennis courts. it’s a bit of a walk but there are several courts available. It’s not shaded at all so it’s best for early morning or cooler days.
Disc Golf at Chesapeake Bay Regency Hyatt Cambridge Md
Maryland Family Resort: Hyatt Regency Chesapeake
Our first time playing disc golf was at this resort. We had other opportunities but my husband figured the kids wouldn’t enjoy it. While the game itself is rather challenging the kids enjoyed throwing the discs and seeing who could throw them the furthest. For those able to play it seems like a fun sport.
Dive-in Movie at Chesapeake Bay Resort: Regency Hyatt Cambridge Md
Every night they offer a Dive-in Movie at the indoor pool. If you are looking for seats with the best view the row of chairs in front of the pool facing the screen is great. Otherwise, grab afloat and enjoy the movie from inside the pool. There’s a sign at the entrance of the indoor pool by the elevator that lists which movies are playing for the week.
Other Family Resort Activities at the Regency Hyatt Cambridge Md
Fire Pit at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Resort
Check with Staff to see what time the fire pit is lit. You can purchase more kits at the shop inside the resort or bring your own. Simple but fun experience and treat that kids and adults love.
Non-motorized sports
The resort offers non-motorized sports available at the tiny bayside beach including Stand Up Paddle Boarding the rates at the time of this posting was $25 for 1 hour or $55 for 4 hours. We were going to try this but there is a lot of tiny jellyfish in the bay and the kids didn’t’ want to get in the water. There were many people who were going out into the bay even wading in the water and didn’t seem to be an issue.
Motorized Sports
If you take a stroll down the paved walkway toward the marina you will see a booth that offers motorized and on motorized watercraft rentals. The rates seemed standard and were considered the jetski but simply ran out of time. Considering the great value of this resort with so many activities included I think it’s worth a splurge if you have time.
Golf and Spa at Hyatt Chesapeake Maryland
During this short trip, we did not have a chance to check out the Golf Course or Spa but I am sure can expect them to be the same quality as the rest of the resort. Sign the kids up for the kids club and head out to the greens or head to the spa.
Camp Hyatt Kids Club at Hyatt Chesapeake Maryland
Due to COVID, the kids club was closed but I am sure it’s as wonderful as their other services. We will likely check it out when they open up again.
Dining / Food at Regency Hyatt Chesapeake Bay Resort
Due to COVID, the dining options at the resort were a bit limited but they did offer to take out from several places though the menu seemed very similar especially at lunchtime; mostly sandwiches and salads.
We did order dinner one evening. The dinner menu items didn’t show up until the afternoon. Out of everything we ordered the Crab bisque was fantastic and I highly recommend it. The crab dip was good and loaded with meat as were the fish tacos. the kids both enjoy their kid’s meals of pizza and grilled cheese and while they were typical resort prices, the portion sizes were generous.
The rooms have minifridges in the rooms though they are more like drink fridges. I am not sure how cold they keep things but our drinks felt cold enough. Walmart is located across the street if you want to pick up any groceries or even hot food. We left cold cuts and fruit in the fridge as well as leftover pizza and had plenty of space for drinks too.
When to Go
This Resort is great in the summer as we loved the outdoor pools and how the indoor pool opens up on one side to let fresh air in. There’s a selection of water sports available. The Spring and Fall are also great times. The indoor pool is very large has a volleyball net and there’s a hot tub that also connects to the outside. The fire place is cozy and very large. May of the activities such as Golf, Spa, minigolf, tennis, bicycles and more can be enjoyed in the spring and fall and maybe even more so during the cooler temps. I think April or May or September or October would be the ideal time to visit the resort to take advantage of all the activities as well as lower crowds.
Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Weddings
A Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Wedding would be a wonderful place for your special day. While we were there we noticed a small wedding with wonderful views of the bay. It’s a nice place for families to get together and even stay a few days or a week after the wedding to celebrate together.
Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Holidays
The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay occasionally offers special events and Dinners. This includes a Thanksgiving Day Buffet. So whether your staying at the resort or live near by you can enjoy a wonderful feast with out any of the work.

Another advantage to using an inflatable stand up paddle board is that it is very easy to transport and can be stored when not in use. Most inflatable stand up paddle boards have wheels on their sides, so you can easily bring them with you on trips to the lake or ocean.
