Fly Creek is a great day trip for anyone staying in Cooperstown, NY, only 3 miles away; Syracuse, NY; or the Capital Region. A surprising fact is that it is located within the Adirondack Park. Autumn is the perfect time to visit this small town and enjoy a wonderful view of fall foliage while enjoying some great fall products and activities. If you’re in the area for the Cooperstown Beverage Trail you will want to head to this town for 2 stops on the list.
Morning: Fly Creek Corn Maze
Start your morning off at the Fly Creek Corn Maze. What I love about this corn maze is that it’s pretty challenging. There are no questions to help you determine the correct turn to make and there are a lot of wrong ways that you don’t find out until you have gone through a large loop (vs hitting a dead end or small loop). We truly thought we weren’t going to make it out but we did and through the exit, not the entrance! There’s also a smaller corner maze that’s just a loop and a bean maze great for toddlers and even our kids liked running through them. Overall, Fly Creek Corn Maze is a good price for a fun time making it a great value.
- Hours (at the time of posting): 10-5 weekends in September and October and Columbus day
- Price: $6 per person Children 3 and under are free
- Night and Haunted maze $10 per person
Lunch and Afternoon: Fly Creek Cider Mill
*******Fly Creek Cider Mill has Closed and is for Sale. Hopefully someone will snatch up this great establishment and reopen it.
After the Corn Maze head over to Fly Creek Cider Mill. You can start your visit off with an apple cider donut to save it for a dessert after lunch. This is the perfect place to enjoy lunch and spend your afternoon
Head to their store and sample some wonderful local products. go up to the cider press viewing area and watch cider being made. Make sure you check they start making cider as we came a little too early, they start next weekend. Outside the market some cute photo props you can have fun with and you can look for fish in the stream.
When it’s time for lunch head over to the snack barn and bakery restaurant order yourself a nice combo meal as well as dessert and sit down outside where you can enjoy your meal with a nice cold hard cider. Then check off you can check off Fly Creek Cider Mill If the kids finish early (mine always do), they can play in Tractorland, the play area with a paved little-trike track and a wooden climb-on tractor (this area is intended for toddlers). The kids can also go and fee the Geese and ducks which is a lot of fun.
Late Afternoon: Pail Shop Vineyards
If there’s time left stop by Pail Shop Vineyards at 124 GOOSE STREET FLY CREEK, NY 13337. Head to their Tasting room and check off another stop on the Coopertown Beverage Trail. Don’t judge but this may be one of those times the I-pads come out so we can enjoy a brief moment to enjoy a wine tasting.
Keep an eye out for the Sangrias at Sunset event with live music, which I hear is a lot of fun.
