People often ask what are the Best farms for New York Apple picking near me. Growing up in New York it’s a fall tradition to go apple picking. Apple happens to be my favorite fruit and I think I ate so many the fall before my son was born, that apples are now in his blood and he loves them too. Empire is our favorite variety.
For us, the New York apple picking experience is based not only on the quality of the apple but the availability and accessibility. As well as the overall experience.
1. Stanton’s Feura Farm
Visiting Stanton’s Feura Farm is one of our favorite fall traditions. They are located at 210 Onesquethaw Creek Rd, Feura Bush, NY 12067. While apple picking is the highlight there are also several fun fall activities to make this a fun family outing. Staton’s Feura Farm is the best experience because they offer a large variety of apples often more varieties available at one time than other farms, their trees are loaded and not picked through and they charge the same price for all apple varieties. They offer an activity pass for only $4 that includes a hay slide, hay maze, tricycle course, corn box, and a small corn maze with a hayride. Check out my full review of Stanton’s Feura Farm here.
2. Indian Ladder Farms
Indian Ladder Farms is located at 342 Altamont Rd, Altamont, NY 12009. This is a much bigger farm with many more trees to pick from. The scale of this farm really gives you a full orchard feel. The trees are much larger than Stanton’s but I find that the trees are very picked through at times. This used to be our first choice and it would take us well over an hour to fill a half bushel bag. They also seem to only offer a few varieties to pick from at a time. The quality of the apples is great so just make sure to go early in the season to have an easier time picking.
Indian Ladder Farms offer much more than apple picking which makes this a great place to spend the day. They often have special events that include horse rides. Indian Ladder Farms have a giant sandpit, goats, cows, and other animals with those quarter feed machines. They also have a little shop with locally made food and other items. They have a window where you can watch their donuts being made. The donuts are very popular and the line gets long so I recommend grabbing some early. Inside their store they also have a bee display with our kids enjoy taking a peek at every time we visit. We have attended Birthday Parties here in the past and the kids have a wonderful time, if you looking for party ideas this is a fun one. I hear their Cafe is great for a sit-down breakfast. They also have a Cidery and Brewery you can check out.
3. Bowman’s Orchard
Bowman’s Orchards, located at 147 Sugar Hill Rd, Rexford, NY 12148, have a large selection of apples to pick from. Now Picking: Daily 9-4 Apples- (Autumn Crisp, Blondee, Cortland, Gala, Golden Supreme, Greening, Honeycrisp, Jonamac, Macintosh, Shamrock, Zestar.)
What we love about Bowman’s is the entertainment options available at their farm that you can combine with New York apple picking such as farm animals, pony rides, a Large fun playground, apple cannon, cow train, and gem mining. They also offer Birthday Party packages which we tried out for one of our daughter’s Birthdays and the kids had a blast.
