4 Disney Resorts by selling item’s they No longer need.
One way to Help you pay for Disney.
It was early in 2018 and between Christmas, Birthdays and the kids continued growth, our house had become incredibly cluttered. I was ready to clear it out. Of course, my kids weren’t ready especially my daughter. I decided to offer them an incentive. I would post all their items for sale and the money they earn can go into a Disney Jar. We were pretty surprised at the results: the kids saved enough to cover tickets and more at 4 Disney Resorts. This is one of many ways to pay for Disney
This is one of many ways to pay for Disney.
A Goal and Progress
As we went through items, I would post them for sale on Facebook mom swap and yard-sale sites. When we sold something, they would count the money and in the jar it would go. On occasion, we would count all the money. I would tell them how many Days at Disney could be covered. We kept selling and soon we had 4 and even 5 days at Disney saved.
Walt Disney World, September 2018
Help Pay for Disney: $1100
We had a trip booked in September to Universal Studios. We decided to book 2 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties. By attending 2 of the parties, we could have a my daughters Princess Day and push a full visit off another year or so.
After attending the Christmas Party the year before, we knew the kids could make it till midnight. With entry allowed at 4pm that meant we had 8 hours at Magic Kingdom with lighter crowds and shorter wait times. On the first day, we booked BBB for both kids and CRT for Dinner for the 4 of us. The tickets and activities came from the children’s Disney Jar for a total of $1107!
A day ticket to Disney is $110 for one day vs the $150 we paid per person for 16 hours (2 days total) in the park. I feel this was a very good value and bonus we got to meet Moana! If you are looking for a Budget Trip for a couple Days the Special Events and Parties are the way to go.
Disneyland California, February 2019
Help Pay for Disney: $1650
We had planned to visit Disneyland Ca on our way to Hawaii in February 2019. Disneyland was offering a special we purchased 4-day, 1 park passes for 4 of us for $1075. We booked a budget motel for $570 for 4 nights in walking distance to the parks.
All paid for by the Disney Jar. That’s about $1650 for 4nts 4 Days at Disneyland covered by the kids and all we had to pay for was our food.
Tokyo Disneyland April 2019
Help Pay for Disney: $650
We had a Trip to Japan and Hong Kong booked for April 2019 at the request of my husband. Tokyo Disneyland hotels are very expensive. Instead, I was able to use Marriott points to stay on the monorail at the Sheraton Tokyo Bay. Tickets for 4 days for 4 of us will cost $658 which we had just enough in the Disney jar for.
Hong Kong Disneyland, April 2019
Help Pay for Disney: $350
The last part of the trip was 5 nights in Hong Kong at Disneyland Resort’s Explorer Lodge. The cost of the hotel was a splurge for my Mike’s birthday and we did not use Disney Jar funds for it.
2 day tickets for the 4 of us were supposed to be $250. We found out when buying them at the resort they are cheaper outside the country and we ended up paying $350. That was a tough one to let go but hopefully others learn from our mistake. Our jar was empty, so I went through and posted spring/summer clothes and toys and was able to sell enough to cover more than what we ended up needing for the 2 Day park tickets.
Summary
This is how my kids paid for trips to 4 Disney Parks, using money the kids earned selling their old items they no longer need. (2) Halloween Parties at WDW, 4 Days at Disneyland including Hotel, 4 Days at Tokyo Disneyland (hotel on points) and 2 Days at Hong Kong Disneyland.
We were lucky enough to use southwest companion pass to get us to Orlando and one-way California . We used points earned from Chase Credit Cards for our flights to Japan and Hong Kong. But having the kids contribute to the trip was a great teaching opportunity and helped earn some money toward our travels. We made sure to thank the kids for the experiences to reiterate that they paid for them and that sacrifices (big and small) can really pay off.
If you want to know how to pay for Disney. This is one way. However, You don’t have to have a Disney Jar and you don’t have to sell your unused items, you can easily find what motivates your kids and an easy way to earn extra money for your travels.
